Stop Dieting and Start Thriving: Why Reverse Dieting is Your Metabolic Superpower

Beautiful Peach, let’s be real: If you’ve been dieting FOREVER, you’re probably thinking, “How many calories should I eat when I’m finally done reverse dieting?” The answer might surprise you.

There are two paths you can take when finishing a reverse diet:

  1. Stop where your metabolism “needs” to be.
  2. Go HIGHER for metabolic success that lasts.

The difference between these two options can make or break your results. Let’s break them down.

Option 1: Stopping Where Your Metabolism “Needs” to Be

Imagine you started your reverse diet at 1,200 calories and worked your way up to 2,000 calories (your “maintenance” level). This is where your body can maintain weight without gaining or losing.

Benefits of Stopping Here:
✅ You’ve restored metabolic function.
✅ You’re eating more and feeling energized.
✅ You’re set up for a calorie deficit if fat loss is your goal.

BUT… if you’ve been in a restrictive diet cycle for years, stopping here could backfire. Think of your metabolism as a scared puppy—you’ve JUST gained its trust, and suddenly you cut food again. Cue metabolic panic mode. 😰

Option 2: Going BEYOND Your Baseline (Highly Recommended)

Here’s where the magic happens. Instead of stopping at 2,000 calories, you keep increasing to 2,500-3,000 calories (this takes time).

Why This Works:
💪 More food = more muscle. More muscle = a faster metabolism.
🔥 Higher calories mean less drastic cuts when it’s time for a fat-loss phase.
🍫 More flexibility during travel, social events, and life.
Fewer rebounds: Your metabolism stays stable, and you avoid yo-yo dieting.

I personally reverse dieted to 3,000 calories before entering a fat-loss phase, and it was the best thing I could’ve done. I had energy, built serious muscle, and when it was time to cut—I didn’t have to drop calories too low. 🙌 What’s better? My clients get the same results – 780 more calories and counting!

Fighting the Urge to Cut Too Soon

I know it’s tempting to stop and start dieting the second you see progress—but that’s a short-term mindset that can undo all your hard work. Here’s how to overcome the urge:

1️⃣ Remove Timelines from Your Mindset
Stop thinking, “I have to be at X weight by Y date.” Healing your metabolism is a long-term investment.

2️⃣ Plan to Use Extra Months Wisely
Instead of seeing those extra calories as a delay, use them to build muscle, strength, and metabolic insurance.

3️⃣ Learn to Love Your Body at Every Stage
This isn’t just about food—it’s about loving yourself NOW. Your body’s worth isn’t tied to its size.
